The Cure

The Cure formed in 1978 in Crawley, West Sussex. Throughout numerous line-up changes since they formed, guitarist, lead vocalist, and songwriter Robert Smith has remained the only constant member. Their first album was Three Imaginary Boys (1979) and this placed the band in the post-punk and new wave scene that sprung up in the UK. Starting with their second album, Seventeen Seconds, they adopted a new, further dark and esoteric style, which had a strong influence on the emerging goth rock scene as well as the style & culture that formed around it.

Following the album, Pornography in the early 80's, the band's future was uncertain. Smith was keen to move away from his gloomy reputation, introducing a pop style into the band's songs. Tunes such as "Let's Go to Bed", "The Love Cats", "Inbetween Days", "Close To Me", "Just Like Heaven", "Lovesong", and "Friday I'm in Love" helped the band gain commercial success. They have so far released 13 studio albums, two EPs, over 30 singles, and have sold more than 30 million albums around the world.
