Written in the margins of touring schedules, long-haul flights, late nights, and quiet moments between cities, the record captures a band in motion, not just geographically, but creatively and personally. Where Recency Bias was about proving range, Marginalia is about refining identity; the notes scribbled beside the main text, the thoughts that don’t quite fit anywhere else, but end up meaning everything.
Across the album, Rum Jungle lean further into contrast and cohesion balancing their signature indie guitar foundations with sharper production, more intentional songwriting, and a deeper emotional through-line. There’s a sense of clarity here with hooks that hit harder, lyrics that cut closer, and arrangements that feel both more expansive and more controlled. It’s still eclectic, but this time with purpose, every left turn feels earned.
Thematically, Marginalia explores self-perception, growing pains, relationships, and the quiet tension between who you are and who you’re becoming. It’s introspective without losing momentum, capturing both the chaos of being on the road and the stillness that comes with reflecting on it.
